The Safdie brothers’ new crime thriller, Uncut Gems, opened in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles over the weekend to much acclaim. After raking in $525,498 from just five theaters, the movie starring Adam Sandler is on its way to becoming A24's highest grossing film to date, outperforming the likes of Hereditary, Moonlight, Midsommar, and Lady Bird. Furthermore, the limited release accounts for the biggest per-screen average opening ever for A24.

Currently with a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, Uncut Gems has received multiple nominations from the Film Independent Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards, New York Film Critics Circle Awards, and National Board of Review. Sandler is also up for best actor on each list.

Uncut Gems will continue to release throughout the holidays, opening in 90 to 100 more theaters across North American in December. The movie centers around a charismatic jeweler (played by Sandler) who makes a high-stakes bet that could ruin his business and bring trouble upon his family. Lakeith Stanfield stars alongside Sandler, while The Weeknd and Kevin Garnett also feature.
