Earlier this week it was revealed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has essentially been axed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a fallout between Sony and Disney. While many MCU fans are devastated about the decision and rally behind Marvel-owning Disney, one notable person has come out in firm support of Sony: Stan Lee’s daughter.

Stan Lee's sole heir, Joan Celia Lee, spoke to TMZ about the split. Referencing Disney's attempt to up its revenue by changing its current deal with Spider-Man rights owning Sony, Lee said, “Marvel and Disney seeking total control of my father’s creations must be checked and balanced by others who, while still seeking to profit, have genuine respect for Stan Lee and his legacy.”

According to Lee, Sony's refusal to change Disney's current 5 percent of first-dollar gross deal to its desired 50-50 split is respectful of her father's legacy. “Whether it’s Sony or someone else’s, the continued evolution of Stan’s characters and his legacy deserves multiple points of view."

Lee's comments towards Disney also turned personal when she revealed, “When my father died, no one from Marvel or Disney reached out to me." She went on to say, "From day one, they have commoditized my father’s work and never shown him or his legacy any respect or decency. In the end, no one could have treated my father worse than Marvel and Disney’s executives."

Disney has not yet responded to Lee's critiques.
