First up from the partnership is a reimagining of the brand's classic 1460 Bex platform sole boot, which largely became popular in the '90s.

At the core, the Rick Owens x Dr. Martens collaboration serves as an exploration of Owens' dark, underground aesthetic, here applied to an iconic footwear silhouette. The Dr. Martens boot is equipped with the designer's signature dramatic lacing system, a design that Owens says points to an eternal search for rational order. Smooth black leather drapes the upper of the shoe, which sits on a double- height Bex sole and is finished with taupe and yellow double welt stitching. The collab is marked with co-branding on the sockliner and heel loop.

“When I was a teen and becoming physically aware, I saw how a tightly laced ankle leading to a broad solidly planted foot had a simple, modest, industrial masculinity — almost like a corset between a muscled calf and a sturdy foot that acted as a stoic ballast," Owens said. "DMs exemplified this the best. I saw them on all the guys flying through the air at the shows I went to then...Fear...Black Flag...The Screamers...Alien Sex Fiend...Dr. Martens became a symbol of a raw and sweaty vitality that I thought I might be able to pull off...and for a minute, I think I did."

"Coming full circle to partner with Dr. Martens 40 years later leads me to lacing them with pearl-colored cotton laces in a geometric pattern that I use often as a symbol of our eternal collective search for rational order; signs of hope and an affectionate blessing on the perpetual recklessness of youth,” he continued.

The initial release from Rick Owens and Dr. Martens — featuring the 1460 Bex boot — arrives March 20. The second drop from the collaboration is scheduled for May.
