Double Tap to Zoom

Reebok normally goes about its life quietly, dropping retro-inspired silhouettes here and there with the occasional new release making use of new technology. Every so often, though, the brand drops something that gets attention. And gets a lot of it.

We’re thinking back to the ‘90s which was a pretty crazy decade for Reebok. ’94 saw the release of the Reebok Instapump Fury which, to this day, stands as one of the wildest footwear choices around. Only two years later we were treated to Allen Iverson’s signature shoe which, whether you love it or hate it, is unforgettable. Sometimes overlooked, but still one of ‘90s Reebok’s most underrated designs is the Reebok Beatnik which saw the light of day in 1993.

After a Western release in ’93, demand for Reebok Beatnik Sandals grew so large in Japan that a resale market developed around the shoe. After slipping under the radar for just under 30 years, it seems that 2020 is the year that the Reebok Beatnik will make its return thanks to a highly anticipated general release on the 31st of July. In honor of this underdog in the footwear world, we’ve rounded up the best Reebok Beatnik collaborations and colorways available now.

Pleasures imparts its grunge aesthetic onto one of the least grungey silhouettes around and it really, really works. A subtle spider-web motif embellishes the all-black upper while a Pleasures text logo graces the velcro strap.

It's obviously a loud silhouette, so maybe you'd feel more comfortable sporting an all-black iteration. The murdered-out colorway shifts the focus away from the exaggerated sole unit and more onto the overall shape of the shoe.
