Beauty has always been about more than dewy skin and shiny hair, but Paris Fashion Week made it abundantly clear that hair and makeup aren't simply means to an aesthetic end — they're weapons of creativity.

Pierced flesh at Balenciaga
Alexis Stone, drag queen and master of special effects makeup, takes the cake for freakiest Fashion Month beauty. At Balenciaga, the artist applied fake piercings all over models' faces: spikes protruded from Amelia Gray Hamlin's cheeks, while studs dotted Bella Hadid's eyebrows. One model even sported prosthetics mimicking horn-like forehead implants.
Hair horns at Undercover
Speaking of horns, models at Undercover channeled the devil in spiky updos. Otherwise slicked-back buns and ponytails were accented with pointy braids at the crown, hinting at something sinister.
Logomania at Valentino
Pat "Mother Makeup" McGrath took logomania to the extreme, applying Valentino's Toile Iconographe print across models' faces and necks. That's one way to show brand loyalty.
Inky eyes at Ann Demeulemeester
Makeup artist Lynsey Alexander sprayed black ink over models' lids, a novel twist on the smokey eye. The darkly romantic look was both delicate and brazen, unfussy yet intentional. Jot this one down under makeup we want Julia Fox to try.
Defying gravity at Thom Browne
James Pecis is so skilled, he made models' hair stand on end. The stylist sculpted spiky mohawks and upright pony tails, gravity-defying looks in line with Browne's delightfully over-the-top SS23 collection.
Eyebrow bling at Junya Watanabe
We already know that no eyebrows are the new eyebrows, but Junya Watanabe made a convincing case for replacing them with studs. After concealing models' brows, makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench applied rows of pearl-like gems in their place.
