Off-White's New "PAPERWORK" Drop Is All Play and No Work
Off-White™ "PAPERWORK," Virgil Abloh's genderless, self-expressive vision for beauty, is back with a new drop — and it's pure fun.
A series of three boxes (toolkits, if you will) invite customers to discover Off-White™'s hero beauty collections, first introduced in at Paris Fashion Week in February: fragrance, face and body pigment, and nail polish.
The Olfactive ID Box packages all four Off-White™ "PAPERWORK" fragrances, billed as "Solutions," in vial-like tubes. A mini zine details the notes of each scent, which olfactive expert Emma Vernon gave her honest review of back in May.
Next up is my personal favorite, the Imprint Box. A box of Crayolas for adults, the capsule contains Off-White's multi-use pigment crayons, wielded to create faux lip rings on models at the label's TK runway show. The four shades — burgundy, red, navy blue, and lime green — are saturated and creamy, ideal for adding bold swaths of color to the eyes or drawing graphic shapes on the skin. (In other words: these are not for tiny details.)
Lastly, the Color Matter Box offers three statement nail colors — cherry red, grey, and metallic glitter — plus a clear top coat. With an added sheet of nail stickers, the box proposes endless design and color combinations, positioning nail-painting as a form of accessorizing.
Here's where things get extra fun: adding an element of surprise, each box contains a "hidden" compartment with a Masters of the Universe toy by Mattel Creations. Will you get He-Man, Skeletor, or Evil-Lyn? It's a toss-up that heightens the unboxing experience.
Off-White™'s second "PAPERWORK" launch brings the joy back to beauty. Amid an endless stream of products promising to "fix" or "correct," it's easy to forget that cosmetics are supposed to be fun — beauty is a form of self-expression, after all. With its face crayons and nail stickers, Off-White™ reminds us: it's always okay to play.
