Oakley to Celebrate Their Origins With Three Day Event in LA
Performance sunglasses experts Oakley are kicking off the year with a three-day event in Los Angeles celebrating the brand's origins and vision for the future.
Taking place this week the experience is centred around the 2020 re-release of the iconic Oakley Sutro Eyeshade which first made waves during the 1984 Olympic Games in LA. Along with an in-depth archive of the brands impressive back-catalogue of performance eyewear, Oakley designer Brian Tukumi and senior engineer Evan Barnhart will explore the model's heritage and host an eyewear customization workshop featuring a rare dip-dye technique.
Diving deeper into the spirit of '84, artist and collector of 1984 Olympic Games design paraphernalia Hassan Rahim will host a talk taking the audience through the design and graphic influence of that summer.
Despite being a hit as eyewear of choice for the world's more daring of style enthusiasts, action sports is where the brand has positioned itself heavily for the past four decades and BMX icons Nigel Sylvester and Bob Haro will be present to discuss the sports cultural impact beyond the saddle. Multi-talented skater, surfer, swimmer, style icon, model, photographer and likely a tonne more, Evan Mock will also be joining, hosting a photography exhibition on-site for the duration of the event.
Oakley's vision of the future will be represented by a hardcore forward-thinking training experience intertwined with product testing of the EVZero Blades (with color enhancing Prizm Lenses) hosted by trainer Ariel Foxie. For the less sweat inclined attendees LA artists, Sage Adams and Ganna Bogdan will discuss the future of sport and art as positive forces for change.
The event is open to the public from February 21 - 23, Friday and Saturday 11-7pm | Sunday 11-4pm and takes place at 427 N Fairfax, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
