The Bitcoinist reports that Nike has filed for a trademark for the word "cryptokicks," hinting at the brand's future plans.

In the documents that were filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, Nike claims "cryptokicks" would be for "financial services, namely, providing a digital currency or digital token for use by members of an online community." The Swoosh also revealed that there will be "downloadable mobile applications for providing access to crypto collectibles, crypto art, and application tokens."

According to Trademark attorney Josh Gerben, who spoke about the filing on Twitter, he explained that the sportswear giant will have to release a product utilizing the "cryptokicks" name within the next four years, in order to retain the rights to the trademark.

Based on the report, it is suggested that Nike may be looking to create a digital currency in order for its customers to purchase items easily on their online store or via the SNKRS app.
