The merger between fashion brands and sportswear labels has been around for a while. In 2023 alone, we’ve seen groundbreaking collaborations, such as the Nike x Tiffany & Co. Air Force 1’s or the ultimate Ganni’s NB 1906Rs, as seen at their SS24 show in Copenhagen. However, the New York fashion brand Aimé Leon Dore has been at the forefront since 2019, and these New Balance x ALD 650Rs Sneakers are one of their striking creations.

Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance go way back. They’ve also given birth to multiple babies — creative, not human, obviously — throughout these past four years.

They first joined forces in 2019 with two iterations of the old-school New Balance 997 model. Since then, they have released various models, all inspired by old-school New Balance running sneakers. However, it wasn’t until the end of 2020 — a peak year for basketball sneaker silhouettes — that they opted for on-court models. And just like that, the New Balance x ALD 650R Sneakers were born.

They’ve created three special-edition colorways to celebrate the Mulberry Classic hoops tournament. Namely, navy green, light blue, and black. Keeping the classic silhouette of the ‘80s model, the 650R features a padded high-top collar for ankle support and an EVA foam midsole for comfort, on or off the court. The combination of leather and mesh panels creates a striking textile contrast.

Sure, New Balance has become the ultimate destination for everyday kicks. However, striking collaborations like these make you stand out from the crowd. The New Balance x ALD 650R’s in brand new color iterations may have launched two months ago, but they’re still available at New Balance. So, hurry on over and pick your favorite.
