The v6 Proves the New Balance 990 Keeps Getting Better
It’s official: the New Balance 990v6 has been unveiled. Aimé Leon Dore founder and soon-to-be creative director of New Balance’s Made in USA division, Teddy Santis, posted a photo of the sneaker on Instagram.
There had been several rumors that we’d get to see the 990v6 this year leading up to the official unveiling. Leaked images of New Balance’s perhaps most iconic sneaker surfaced just last week. This, however, is the first official — and best — look yet at the upcoming New Balance 990v6.
As expected, it will initially arrive in the New England brand’s signature gray colorway. A mesh base with leather and suede paneling gives the familiar design a fresh twist.
For the first time, the “N” logo on the quarter panel does not sit atop a suede panel, but rather on the perforated leather webbing that runs across the mesh base. More mesh is visible than on past iterations, giving the sneaker a sleeker, streamlined look. The heel overlays have been reworked too, as has the entire sole unit.
It’s currently unclear what cushioning technology New Balance has opted for on its 990v6, though it’s likely not to stray too far from previous versions. It’s highly likely that New Balance follows up this unveiling with official information at some point soon.
Take a look at the sneakers above and stay tuned for more information as we get it.
