The latest NASA Mars photo is the highest resolution image it has ever produced. Taken by the Curiosity Rover, the result is a 1.8-billion-pixel panorama of the Martian landscape.

The latest upload is a patchwork of over 1000 photos captured by the car-sized rover from its current location, "Glen Torridon" on Mars' "Mount Sharp." The images were taken between November 24 and December 1, while members of the Earth team were enjoying their Thanksgiving break, and then compiled over a period of months. Take a look below.

"While many on our team were at home enjoying turkey, Curiosity produced this feast for the eyes," said Curiosity's project scientist Ashwin Vasavada on NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory site. Vasavada also talked us through the making of the photo, which you can watch the making-of in the video below and then head over to NASA for more information on the project.
