After taking McLaren’s 570S Spider for a spin, Highsnobiety’s Andrew Keegan and Robin Thomson travel out to Portugal to go fast and furious with the new McLaren Senna. Located at the Circuito Estoril, we talk with Ian Howshall, global product manager of Ultimate Series, and others from the McLaren team about what makes the new luxury beast so game changing.

Named after legendary F1 racer Ayrton Senna, the new model is said to be successor to the McLaren P1. It features a hand-built red body made from a lightweight bespoke carbon fiber with a dry weight of 2,641 lbs. The vehicle hosts a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, similar to that of the 720s, and delivers an impressive 789HP and 590 ft-lb of torque. The Senna features signature McLaren engine technology, such as dry-sump lubrication, twin-scroll turbochargers and a flat-plane crankshaft.

The outer body features an F1-style roof scoop combined with fully adjustable suspension hydraulics. The interior of the driver-focused cockpit incorporates an electro-hydraulic steering rack, elongated carbon-fiber paddle shifters and a foldable dash display.

So how much will this bad boy cost? Hand-built and with only 500 in production, the McLaren Senna is said to cost £750,000 (approx. $1,004,662). Watch us test drive the Senna in the video above.
