Hunter Schafer is best-dressed at Cannes 2024 and all it took was a single streetstyle outfit. Who cares about the red carpet?

Schafer was seen on May 16, prior to getting dressed up for the premiere of Kinds of Kindness, which features an all-star ensemble cast. Along with Schafer, you've got Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Kiki Palmer, Jesse Plemuns, Hong Chau, and even former Mr. Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn.

AND, it's appropriately directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, whose Poor Things was one of the great recent filmic fashion moments

But that's the movie. We're only talking about Hunter Schafer and, specifically, only talking about what Schafer wore before the movie even debuted.

Seen out on a stroll with a friend, Schafer wore an outfit that, on paper, reads like the epitome of Cool Girl Contemporary: Prada sunglasses, oversized leather jacket, knit V-neck sweater, faded jeans, and tabi shoes to boot (suddenly, they're everywhere!),

So, yeah, it sounds solid enough but once you see Schafer's look it becomes clear: this is next-level casual styling. This is what separates the merely fashionable from the truly stylish, the It Girls from the It Women.

There are levels to this: Schafer's jacket is cut generous but not immense, counterbalanced by jeans that are neither slim nor baggy, perfectly cuffed to the shin to reveal explosively bright striped socks that only visually minimize her sleek shoes.

It's a masterclass in delicately off-kilter proportions, made all the better by timeless pieces in painfully perfect harmony.

Even the accessorizing is clutch (not literally): Schafer's sleek shoulder bag is nearly obscured by her leather while her chunky shades and flowing locks are shrouded by a fuzzy headwrap that only adds an additional level of textural intrigue.

That's a lot of words to point out something that ought to be obvious from the first glance: this is pretty much a perfect outfit. Weird, wearable, fun, funky, different enough to stand out but classic enough to be worn anywhere, any time.

Forget the red carpet, the movies, everything: Cannes' jury ought to give Schafer the Palme d'Or on the basis of her style alone.
