In an interview with The Guardian, A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF) author George R.R. Martin divulged that he is developing "a couple of other shows for HBO that I can’t talk about yet." This is in addition to the five different Game of Thrones prequels already in development at HBO, not to mention The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in the ASOIAF series.

On the topic of The Winds of Winter, the author admitted to "struggling with it for a few years." It's been seven years since the last novel, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news of the penultimate book's publishing date.

Whether the new shows in development are Game of Thrones-related or not remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely, given there are already multiple prequels in the works. In fact, earlier this year Martin produced a non-Game of Thrones show on Syfy, based off his novella Nightflyers.

Not much is known about the five Game of Thrones prequel shows, although Martin did reveal the title of the first one just last week. Naomi Watts is starring in the series.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will air in 2019. No word on when the prequels will air, but it's safe to say it will be after Game of Thrones wraps up.
