Since the announcement tweet, an official House of the Dragon Twitter account has launched for fans to ponder over. As the name suggests, the prequel will be set some 300 years prior to the events in GOT and the story will center around the Targargaryen struggle for the throne between Kin Viserys' successors Rhaenyra and Aegon II.

The last 24 hours have seen producers reveal some of the key cast members, including Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

As with the original Game of Thrones show, George R.R. Martin – who wasn't a fan of the finale either – serves as co-creator and executive producer of the 10-episode series.

According to HBO and HBO Max chief Casey BloysHouse of the Dragon is targeting a debut “sometime in 2022.”
