Eminem has attracted heavy criticism for lyrics on his new album, Music To Be Murdered By.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, has called his references to the 2017 Ariana Grande concert bombing, where 22 people died, “unnecessarily hurtful and deeply disrespectful to the families and all those affected.”

Perhaps taking the album's title a little too literally in the track "Unaccommodating," Eminem likens himself to Salman Ramadan Abedi, the suicide bomber who wounded 140 people, half of whom were children. Elsewhere in the same track he compares himself to Saddam Hussein and Ayatollah Khomeini, makes reference to the 9/11 attacks, and discusses the murder of six-year-old child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsay. The lyrics are as follows:

"But it seems like the more they studied my music, the more they remind me of eyeballs / I'm watching my pupils get cornier (Uh) / But I'm contemplating yelling "Bombs away" on the game/ Like I'm outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting"

The unquestionably tasteless reference follows a similar reference Eminem made in 2018 - barely a year after the attack - when he rapped:

"Squashed in between a brainwashing machine / Like an Islamic regime, a jihadist extreme radical / Suicide bomber that’s seeing / Ariana Grande sing her last song of the evening / And as the audience from the damn concert is leaving / Detonates the device strapped to his abdominal region / I’m not gonna finish that, for obvious reasons."

That said, and poor taste notwithstanding, it's worth noting that Mathers, was one of many celebrities who offered support in the immediate aftermath of the Manchester bombing, helping the British Red Cross raise nearly $2 million dollars to support the families of those killed or injured in the attack.
