It's been nearly a year since the controversial eighth and final season of Game of Thrones aired, but Emilia Clarke is still sharing her thoughts on the finale. The 33-year-old actress, who played played Daenerys Targaryen on the popular HBO show, recently sat down with The Sunday Times to discuss the already much talked-about ending.

“Yeah, I felt for her. I really felt for her," Clarke said of her character being stabbed by Jon Snow in the finale. "And yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn’t have to deal with something? He got away with murder — literally.”

“I knew how I felt [about the ending] when I first read it, and I tried, at every turn, not to consider too much what other people might say,” she continued. “But I did always consider what the fans might think — because we did it for them, and they were the ones who made us successful, so it’s just polite, isn’t it?”

After expressing her frustration with the lack of a happy ending for Daenerys, Clarke insisted she will always be thankful for being able to play such an integral part in one of HBO's most popular series. She did, however, suggest that the eighth season could have gone on for more than just six episodes. “We could have spun it out for a little longer,” she proclaimed.

Also during her interview with The Sunday Times, Clarke revealed that she would have been pleased with more dialogue in the final season, specifically with Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister. Instead, she stated that there were too many action set pieces.

"It was all about the set pieces,” Clarke concluded. “I think the sensational nature of the show was, possibly, given a huge amount of airtime because that’s what makes sense.”
