Tremaine Emory and Kim Jones in cahoots — need we say more? Ever since it was revealed that the Denim Tears founder and current Supreme creative director would be “guest-designing” for Jones’ Dior in late 2022, we were hooked. Now, after taking to Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum in December to wet our “Dior Tears” lips, the ducts are finally ready to pour as the pair prepare to deliver an entire Fall 2023 collection. The main course, if you will.

Drawing inspiration from the look of Black Ivy League students of the 1950s and ’60s, the capsule is best described as the unification of preppy and archetypal American styles, such as plaid shirts and varsity jackets. Of course, denim — a fabric not necessarily associated with preppy style — is a major player in the collection, too, a material often overlooked by luxury houses. Special jacquards and prints have been applied to heritage fabrics, which retain inherently ’50s shapes and, together, are described by the pair as the meeting of “American homespun” and “French high craft.”

In essence, the collection is a taster of the world Denim Tears occupies — and one Dior is dipping its toes into. Emory is renowned for creating important discussions around the African Diaspora with his work. Here, he takes his craft and expertise in creating meaningful garments and meets it with Dior’s luxury outlook on fashion. The result? Something certainly worth crying over if you aren’t able to cop, but let’s just make sure they’re “Dior Tears” as opposed to regular salty ones.
