Canada Goose, but Make It Deconstructed
Y/Project's creative director Glenn Martens made headlines recently when he was announced as the global creative director for Diesel. Before that comes to fruition, however, Highsnobiety can exclusively reveal a new collaboration between Y/Project and Canada Goose, which highlights just how the designer's arresting design elements can re-invent a classic.
Think of your traditional Canada Goose outerwear piece — now imagine it deconstructed and repurposed with some customizable volume. You're cozy and well-insulated, but still serving a head-turning silhouette.
"Since we revealed our collaboration during our FW20 menswear show, we’ve been twisting the grounded codes, we challenge what is known, and trigger people by putting focus on the unexpected," says Martens.
Canada Goose Outerwear purists probably will be triggered by the idea of wearing a jacket as a backpack with tendril-like sleeves protruding from the back (see below), but that's kind of the point: "Canada Goose stands for one of the most recognizable brands in history, it is celebrated around the world for its exquisite and timeless design," Martens comments, "and Y/PROJECT is about challenges and fun."
The campaign for the six-piece unisex capsule was shot outdoors by long-time Y/Project collaborator Arnaud Lajeunie with styling from Robbie Spencer, and highlights the care-free and interpretive nature of the collection.
Following in the vein of old Y/Project pieces, which would typically arrive with instructions for how to put them on, the Canada Goose collab comes with a few how-to-wear videos, to guide you through the styling of a deconstructed winter jacket.
The Canada Goose x Y/Project collaboration is available today at SSENSE, Browns, MyTheresa, L'Eclaireur, Modes, Tsum, Joyce, Galeries Lafayette China, and Boon the Shop, before a worldwide release on October 28.
