Over the last 70 years, the color, size, and connectivity of LEGO sets have undergone an unbelievable evolution — transforming from rectangular, colorful bricks into insane, thousand-piece replicas of everything from the Taj Mahal to Dominic Toretto's 1970s Dodge Charger from Fast & the Furious.

With LEGO having just unveiled its largest build ever, what better time than now to invest in a big set and spend the weekend building yourself some wild LEGO treats? To get your journey started, below you'll find the biggest LEGO sets of all time, ranging in size from 4,295 pieces to 9,036 pieces.

1. Colosseum

Number of pieces: 9,036

Editor's Notes: It's fitting that the biggest LEGO set of all time is inspired by the largest amphitheater ever built. Featuring 9,036 bricks, only the most die-hard LEGO fans will appreciate the Roman Colosseum set, which incorporates newly developed pieces with patina to give it a more realistic appearance.

2. Star Wars Millennium Falcon

Number of pieces: 7,541

Editor's Notes: The Millennium Falcon is currently LEGO's biggest set. Mimicking the most famous starship in the galaxy, the challenging build boasts realistic details such as removable hull panels, sensor dishes, and upper and lower quad laser cannons. It also comes with crew members from multiple Star Wars films, including Han Solo, Rey, Finn, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and C-3PO, among others.

3. Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle

Number of pieces: 6,020

Editor's Notes: If you can't actually make it to Hogwarts, this 6,020-piece LEGO set is probably the next best thing. The build is a micro-scale model of the famed castle, allowing you to relive scenes from the iconic Harry Potter franchise. You can dine in the Great Hall, visit Hagrid's hut, and even venture into the Chamber of Secrets, as all your favorite locations are included.

4. Taj Mahal

Number of pieces: 5,923

Editor's Notes: Spanning 20.5 inches in width by 16.9 inches in height, this LEGO set lets you build one of the world's most famous landmarks. You can truly bring the mausoleum to life thanks to details such as the four facades with sweeping arches, balconies, and arched windows, as well as intricate tile work. The Taj Mahal is also a modular build, which means it's easy to take apart and move.

5. Harry Potter Diagon Alley

Number of pieces: 5,544

Editor's Notes: LEGO's newest Harry Potter set lets you venture from shop to shop on Diagon Alley. The build includes Ollivander’s Wand Shop, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor, Scribbulus Writing Implements, Flourish and Blotts, and Quality Quidditch Supplies. It also comes with four exclusive new minifigures in Gilderoy Lockhart, Florean Fortescue, Lucius Malfoy, and the Daily Prophet photographer. Diagon Alley is billed as the most detailed Harry Potter set yet.

6. Star Wars Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon

Number of pieces: 5,197

Editor's Notes: The Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon has been discontinued by LEGO, leaving it in high demand. At the time of writing, the set retails for a whopping $2,985 on Amazon. The build features a number of functional aspects such as a retractable boarding ramp, removable cockpit top, and rotating weaponry. Mini-figures include Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa.

7. NINJAGO City

Number of pieces: 4,867

Editor's Notes: Another retired product, the NINJAGO set allows you to relive the movie of the same name. You can take the elevator to maneuver up and down floors, grill up some crab for dinner or rotate the sushi conveyer belt at lunch, and change the movie posters. Also, if you venture into Lloyd’s apartment, you'll find an attic space with a big surprise. The NINJAGO City LEGO set is another modular design, allowing for easy play. It comes with an impressive 16 mini-figures.

8. Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer

Number of pieces: 4,784

Editor's Notes: As you can tell, LEGO — and fans of the brand — love Star Wars. The Imperial Star Destroyer is a rather large design, measuring over three feet long and two feet wide. The set incorporates authentic elements ranging from huge engine exhausts and intricate surface detailing, to the iconic bridge tower and a scale model of the rebel starship that attaches to the front. Designed to be flaunted, the Imperial Star Destroyer comes with its own display stand and a fact plaque.

9. Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters

Number of pieces: 4,634

Editor's Notes: The three-story Firehouse Headquarters lets you dive into the world of Ghostbusters. Featuring nine mini-figures including Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Janine Melnitz, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, Zombie Driver, and Library Ghost, the set also comes with Slimer, Pink Ghost, and Blue Ghost. You can slide your favorite Ghostbusters down the fire pole, secure ghosts in the containment unit, run tests in the lab, and even pin ghosts around the building with attachable arms.

10. Tower Bridge

Number of pieces: 4,295

Editor's Notes: Travel across the pond with LEGO's 4,295-piece Tower Bridge set. The highlight of this particular build is the drawbridge that actually opens. The set also comes with four miniature vehicles: a black London taxi, a traditional red double-decker bus, a yellow truck, and a green car.
