Although buying a brand new piece of clothing is exciting, there's no denying that the fashion industry can be extremely wasteful and destructive. According to The Business of Fashion, it's the second most polluting industry in the world, second only to oil. For example, to make a T-shirt and a pair of jeans (equivalent to 2.2 pounds of cotton) might require more than 20,000 liters of water, and that's before you get to all the chemicals used in the coloring and dyeing process.

In recent years, sustainability has become a hot topic in the fashion industry, with established and up-and-coming brands alike starting to focus on repurposing old textiles and garments. When shopping for repurposed fashion, you not only shop more sustainably, you also stand out by wearing something truly unique.

But if you don't know where to start with sustainable and repurposed fashion, we've curated a selection of our favorite pieces from sustainable brands below. Particular highlights include a bomber by (di)-vision, constructed by locals in Copenhagen to encourage sustainability and a reduction to fashion's carbon footprint. We've also included this long sleeve by Berlin-based GmbH. Crafted using leftover materials sourced from a high-end factory in Milan, the tee reflects the label's fight against over-consumption in fashion today.
