Good news: Donald Glover's critically acclaimed series Atlanta has been renewed for a third season, according to an announcement by FX yesterday.

Since its 2016 debut, the surrealist comedy has picked up a number of awards, including two Golden Globes and two Emmys. The show’s first season, which followed Earn Marks (Glover) and his cousin-cum-rapper Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) was followed by the sophomore "Robbin' Season," which delved into the consequences of Paper Boi's new found fame as he climbs the ranks of the Georgia rap scene.

“Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” said FX president of original programming Nick Grad in a statement. “With Atlanta’s “Robbin’ Season,” Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season.

"We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season, knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”

No official premiere date has been set, but fans might be made to wait a while considering 16 months passed between seasons one and two. Glover, who is the show’s creator and executive producer, has seen his star ascend recently and is in increasing demand. He is rumored to be in the running to play Willy Wonka in a new film based on the beloved Roald Dahl character. Let's hope his burgeoning fame doesn't hold back the release of Atlanta season three too long.
