Video game developer Ubisoft, makers of Assassin’s Creed, has officially announced that it will be donating €500,000 (approximately $565,000) to aid the restoration and reconstruction of the 856-year-old Notre Dame cathedral, after a fire partially destroyed the Parisian landmark on Monday. This comes after LVMH and the Kering group pledged more than $300 million toward rebuilding the gothic cathedral.

The iconic building, along with 18th-century Paris during the French Revolution, was featured prominently in the popular 2014 action game Assassin’s Creed Unity. Additionally, Ubisoft announced that it will be making Assassin’s Creed Unity available for free on PC for one week. "We want to give everyone the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of Notre-Dame the best way we know how," the company stated in a blog post. "We hope, with this small gesture, we can provide everyone an opportunity to appreciate our virtual homage to this monumental piece of architecture."

According to numerous reports, rebuilding the Notre Dame cathedral could also take not years, but decades, experts say. No cost or time estimates have been announced as of yet.
