Editor’s Notes: For me, few sneaker brands are coming close to ASICS nowadays. From its collaborations with names like JJJJound, Kith, Awake NY, to its ever-popular mainline silhouettes like the GEL-Kayano 14, everything ASICS is touching right now turns to gold.
This season the label is dropping the all-new GT-2160 sneaker under its SportsStyle guise with a style that pays homage to the techy design language from ASICS’ GT-2000 from the early 2010s.
Initially revealed as a part of a Dime collaboration during Paris Fashion Week, the 2160 could well be mistaken for other silhouettes from ASICS’ extensive archive, although long-time fans of the Japanese sports label will notice the tweaks.
Typically, ASICS isn’t changing much, which is often where the beauty lies. The wavy forefoot sculpting, a key characteristic from the 2010 iteration, is more prominent than ever before and sits atop a segmented midsole structure and GEL inserts.
When it comes to colorways ASICS is dropping the GT-2160 in two: “White/Pure Silver” and “White/Shamrock Green”, both of which make for a succulent summer sneaker.
Still, despite landing on the ASICS webstore, there’s no official release date as of yet so whether they make them out in time for the warmer months is still up in the air.
Either way, the GT-2160 — collab or mainline — will undoubtedly be yet another ASICS banger, and one you’ll likely find hard to avoid once eventually they drop. Whenever that may be.
