As today marks the start of WWDC 2018, Apple first introduces iOS 12. The overall goal of the update is to help users better manage time spent interacting with their iOS devices. New features include Activity Reports and App Limits, in addition to Do Not Disturb and Notifications controls that will cut down on interruptions.

Apple's Do Not Disturb function is meant to keep you distraction-free and in the moment. iOS 12 ushers in a new Do Not Disturb Bedtime mode that will dim the display and hide notifications on the lock screen until you wake. You can also schedule this feature for a certain time or in conjunction with a specific location.

You'll then be able to further reduce interruptions thanks to more notification options. You can quietly deliver or completely turn off alerts, while Siri is now capable of intelligently making suggestions for your notification settings.

Next, Screen Time will provide you with a weekly Activity Report, detailing the time spent on individual apps, different categories of apps, websites, the number of notifications received, and how often you pick up your iOS device(s). You can set time limits for certain apps, websites, and functions, parents can in turn give their children designated guidelines and schedules for usage.

In addition to time management and productivity, iOS 12 provides you with never-before-seen AR experiences, new ways to communicate, and additional shortcuts.

Thanks to ARKit 2, developers can now create the most innovative AR apps. A new open file format has been designed in collaboration with Pixar, allowing you to experience AR almost anywhere in iOS, including Messages, Safari, Mail, Files, and News.

Previously unseen Animoji and personalized Memoji characters will make their way to iPhone X, as you can create your own Memoji directly within Messages. In addition, Animoji has expanded to feature a ghost, koala, tiger, and T. rex. New camera effects then bring Animoji, Filters, Text, and Stickers to Messages and FaceTime, so you can more colorfully communicate with your friends.

With iOS 12, you'll also be able to Group FaceTime. Participants can be added at any time during a call, while you can then use FaceTime audio from Apple Watch.

New Siri shortcuts allow you to personalize voice commands, reminding you to start a task, or, you can download the new Shortcuts app to create given actions for various apps, with a simple touch of a button.

Lastly, iOS 12 is faster and more responsive than ever before. Camera launches up to 70 percent faster, while the keyboard appears up to 50 percent faster, and typing is more responsive. In addition, apps can launch up to twice as fast.
