Creative director of Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello, has announced a new collaboration with iconic ’90s designer Helmut Lang, who left his label and retired from the fashion industry in 2005 to pursue a quieter life making art in Long Island.

The collaboration is titled “Helmut Lang x Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent Rive Droite,” and it'll see Lang work with Laurent's materials — leftover or unwanted items and accessories, which were shredded, mixed with resin, and set with aluminum molds to create a set of unique sculptures.

The work will be unveiled at YSL's flagship store in the former colette space on Rue St. Honoré in Paris, before moving to the Rive Droite store in Los Angeles the following week.

In an interview with Tim Blanks on Business of Fashion, Vaccarello describes his admiration for the Austrian designer. “For my generation, he is the ultimate designer of the ’90s. I consider him at the same level as someone like Coco Chanel for the way he brought realness into fashion, something that everyone is still copying.

"Helmut was the first to stand up against artificial promotional messages, his vision and art direction brought everyone back to the real and meaningful essence of fashion.”
