Double Tap to Zoom

Hip-hop and fashion are more interconnected than ever. From rap music’s pervasive influence on style trends to musical artists literally heading up some of the most historic Maisons, the boundaries between the two creative disciplines are so tightly woven at this point that nothing should be surprising anymore–– Future for Lanvin still occupies space in my brain, though.

As rap’s chosen brand of the moment, AMIRI is no exception to the discernible melding of genres. With co-signs from the likes of Lil Durk, the self-proclaimed FlyGod Westside Gunn, and more recently, Black Star members Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli for the brand’s Autumn-Winter 2023 campaign, the Los Angeles-based luxury brand has been heralded for the focused intentionality and clear artistic vision consistently employed across its collection.

Highlighting the longstanding and inspired relationship, AMIRI’s AW 2023 collection is infused with the spirit of musical innovation. Debuted in January and released in mid-August, the imaginative line brings an unabashed energy similar to its musical counterpart. Featuring a mix of vibrant patterning, flared silhouettes, and record-themed accessories, the maximalist garments reflect fashion’s developing relationship with music throughout history.

While the dynamic stylings and exceptional runway presentation, soundtracked by the one and only DJ Premier, surely satisfied the casual hip-hop and music fan, AMIRI decided to take it one step further, creating a standout piece for all the real audiophiles.

In what can only be described as true producer-core, the luxury atelier designed a signature handbag to resemble an essential tool utilized by all the best beat makers. Equipped with stereo knobs and a four-by-four faux beat pad, AMIRI’S new Drum Machine Bag is the quintessential item all hitmakers should be looking to add to their rotation.

Given a striking monochrome treatment, the featured item from AMIRI AW ‘23 is part of the brand’s larger exploration into how fashion can further conflate tangible items and elements that make up era-defining music.

While we’ll save the real hi-hat tapping and 808 construction for the pros, at least the rest of us can indulge in our hitmaking fantasies thanks to AMIRI’s statement nod toward rap and hip-hop’s influential culture.
