Alec Baldwin has taken to Twitter to make it clear that, despite reports from Deadline earlier this week, he is not joining Todd Phillips' Joker movie as Batman's father, Thomas Wayne. In fact, he's not joining the picture at all — he was never hired in the first place. And by the sounds of things, he wouldn't have agreed to the part if it'd been offered to him anyway.

Baldwin would have been joining a cast that already includes Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Zazie Beetz. According to reports, Phillips — whose previous directorial projects include The Hangover franchise, War Dogs, and Road Trip — will take a gritty approach to the Joker origin story.

Thomas Wayne was first introduced to DC comics in 1939. He is a respected physician and philanthropist based in Gotham City. His murder was witnessed by Bruce Wayne (aka Batman), then a young boy, and provides the motivation behind his vigilante alter ego.

Joker opens in theaters nationwide October 4, 2019. Will you be watching?
